R.O.O.T.S.


Elsie Soars Foundation recognizes the pressing issues facing young African-American boys and girls in the North and South Carolina region. Despite socio-political progress, significant challenges persist which continue to hinder many young African-American children from thriving to achieve their full potential.

These socio-political issues for many young African-American children include (but not limited to) are sparse healthcare resources; advocacy and educational inequities; limited access to mentorship and intellectual role models; historical and cultural socioeconomic barriers; combined with low representation in (S.T.E.A.M) Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

Health & Wellness

Our Health and Wellness program aims to provide comprehensive support for the physical and mental well-being of young boys and girls in the African American community. Through partnerships with hospitals, healthcare systems, fitness instructors, therapists, and culinary artists. ESF will offer a variety of programs that include regular health check-ups, fitness and yoga sessions, mental health workshops, and nutrition education. The participants will engage with these professionals both online and in-person, fostering relationships that go beyond the clinical setting.

Education

Our Education program focuses on empowering young girls and moms through academic and skill-building programs. ESF will collaborate with schools, educational institutions, and tutoring services to offer after-school programs, workshops, and mentorship opportunities. These programs cover a range of subjects, including STEM, literacy, and life skills. Through partnerships with businesses and professionals, participants will gain exposure to various career paths and practical knowledge. The incorporation of artistic elements such as storytelling, visual arts, and music will enhance the learning experience. Notable personalities within the education sector will be available for mentorship, further strengthening the network.

Mentorship

Our Mentorship program is designed to create meaningful connections between participants and experienced individuals who can offer guidance and advice in various aspects of career and life. ESF’s commitment to partnering with local, regional and national mentorship programs combined with the support of local community leaders, and professionals from diverse fields, will help ESF facilitate one-on-one and group mentorship sessions. These interactions will go beyond traditional mentorship by incorporating elements of education, health, and the arts. Participants will benefit from the wisdom of mentors while mentors gain a sense of fulfillment by contributing to the community. Partnerships with local community organizations, successful individuals, businesses, and existing mentorship programs will help establish a robust mentorship network.

Arts

ESF Arts program recognizes the transformative power of artistic expression in personal and community development. Collaborating with artists, musicians, actors, and community art organizations. ESF will offer programs that include art workshops, music lessons, and theatrical productions. These activities will not only serve as a means of creative expression but also as tools for building confidence and fostering a sense of community. Partnerships with established artists, art institutions, and local community theaters can amplify the impact of the arts programs. By infusing artistic elements into other programs, ESF aims to create a holistic and engaging experience for participants. Members will be encouraged to tap into their creative side through poetry, spoken word, visual and performative arts.

Advocacy

Our Advocacy program is about empowering participants to become advocates for themselves and their communities. Through partnerships with local and regional advocacy groups, community leaders, and legal professionals, ESF will conduct workshops on civic engagement, community organizing, and leadership development. Participants will learn how to voice their concerns effectively, engage with policymakers, and drive positive change. The combination of education, mentorship, and artistic expression will enhance the advocacy skills of participants.
